I agree (as I mentioned in class)...our society has gotten overly dependent upon litigation as a means of solving problems. Still, I wonder if this is unique to our time period. I refer you to Charles Dickens' Bleak House, wherein a law suit goes on for ages, generates massive amounts of paper, and (most importantly) determines the fate of all of the characters. Perhaps it is the nature of what is contested that is different. Any thoughts?
